Headteacher's Welcome

Thank you for your interest in Cliff Park High School. Whether you are a prospective parent, prospective student or you already know the school well, welcome to our School.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our learning community. Our mission statement, 'Achieving together', is reflected in all we do here. We aim to foster every child's natural desire to be successful, nurture their own unique talents and provide learning experiences of the highest quality.

Our examination results this year illustrate significant progress for all students during their time at our school with 64% achieving 5 A*-C grades and 46% achieving 5 A* to C grades including English and Maths – a school record! These results represent progress from age 11 that puts our school in the top 20% of similar schools. We provide our students with a broad curriculum including access to a number of vocational subjects in Years 10 and 11. Cliff Park continues to be a high performing school and we aim to ensure we support every student to be a confident and self reliant young person who is motivated to learn and achieve.

High standards and strong values are important to us and we recognise our school has an important role to play within the community. We aim to educate in the broadest sense of the term. As well as achieving impressive examination results, we offer a wide range of extra curricular activities to enable every student to enjoy school and develop their talents and abilities to the full.

We are a growing school and offer excellent facilities which we are continuing to develop to provide an environment that is well equipped for 21st Century learning. As a specialist sports college we use the world of sport to underpin our development - leadership and team-building skills are key to the way we help our students develop during their time with us.

The school was inspected in June 2009 and received a very positive report. The full report can be viewed at www.ofsted.gov.uk but here are some quotes:

“Cliff Park High School is a good school that uses its sports specialist status to good effect.”

“The school demonstrates a good capacity for further improvement.”

“The house system for pastoral care and academic support promotes harmony between students of different ages.”

“The school has robust measures in place for identifying students with academic or personal difficulties and for dealing with them”

“Students enjoy school and achieve well”

“Students have a good sense of right and wrong. They behave responsibility in lessons and around school, showing respect for each other and their surroundings."

“Students feel safe at school and know who to talk to if they have problems”

“The school uses sport to engage students in learning, and this is an important factor in persuading some students of the importance of working hard in other subjects.”

As a father of four daughters aged between 15 and 21, I know how important it is to choose the right school for your child. You are very welcome to visit the school and you will find details of our Open Evening on the school website. Alternatively, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment to visit the school, meet me and our students.

I look forward to welcoming you in person.
